16/3/2023 – Lents 2023

Last week saw the culmination of a term of hard work for our M1, W1 and W2 in this year’s Lent bumps. A tumultuous week with adverse weather conditions of snow and heavy rain that lead to one day of racing being cancelled, all three crews showed immense tenacity and drive putting in some amazing racing. Everyone at KCBC can be incredibly proud of themselves this week.

M1 had a tough first day in cold temperatures and plenty of rain. They rowed over on day one, then came up against a tough Clare M1 who bumped them on their second day. Day 3 saw them bumped by Queen’s M1, leaving them 11th in the men’s first division. Some great racing from the boys 💜

W1 was our most successful crew this week. They bumped on each day of racing, earning blades. They bumped Girton W1, Murray Edwards W1 and Homerton W1, all within the first few minutes of racing each day.

For most of W2 this was their first ever bumps. They put in a plucky row on day one but were bumped by Clare W3. They successfully rowed over on day 2, but were caught again by Hughes Hall W2 on day 3. Great work from W2!!

Immense thanks go to men’s side coaches Will Miller, Ali Goodman and Shuowang He and women’s side coaches Dylan Whitaker, Emily Kempin and Roger Thorogood.

Bring on Mays!! #yeahkings💜

16/3/2023 – Talbot Cup

What an effort from the boys of M2 in the Talbot cup this week. After narrowly missing out on getting onto bumps, the crew kept their heads held high and used bumps week to get more work done on the water. They finished an impressive second place, beating First and Third M3 and Hughes Hall M2, only to lose to bumps racers Emmanuel M3. Great work from the boys – Mays up next!!

27/02/2023 – Pembroke Regatta

King’s entered three crews into pembroke regatta last weekend. Some great performances all round and brilliant race prep for bumps in a few week’s time!!

M1 raced St Catz (W), Selwyn (W), Queen’s College Oxf*rd (W) and unfortunately lost to Clare in their semi final.

M2 had a bye to the quarter finals, beat Sidney Sussex M2, and then lost to LMBC M2 in the semi final.

A Selwyn/King’s composite W2 faced Hughes Hall in their heat. After an untimely crab off the start the crew picked things back up again, but eventually lost the race.

12/02/2023 – Henley 4’s and 8’s

A huge weekend for KCBC saw us enter three crews into Henley 4’s and 8’s. We arrived in Henley on the Friday night for a pre-paddle before hitting the ground running with races on Saturday morning. M1 took home an impressive win in the third band of their division, with our women’s iv+ finishing 4th out of 8 crews and women’s viii placing 6th out of 11. A great weekend with the whole club pulling together to support one another. The countdown to bumps continues.
