Women’s Captains

Jasmine Rush & Olga Krivdina
kings.women@cucbc.org

Hi, I’m Jasmine and I’m a 3rd year Compsci. I learnt to row at school and joined KCBC in Michaelmas 2021. Joining KCBC reminded me why I love the sport and I was able to row with W1 for Lent and May bumps last year. My favourite part about rowing for King’s is getting to meet so many great friends who are all having fun and working together to improve. It’s also a nice way to get outside and have a break from academics.

Hi, my name is Olga and I am very excited to be the Women’s co-captain this year. I am a 2nd year Classics student, and I started rowing at school back in 2016. I joined KCBC last Lent and loved it ever since. My highlights have been the enthusiastic and supportive atmosphere, not to mention the outstanding success of the whole club last season, especially the women’s side earning double blades in Lent and May bumps. I cannot wait to see what the new season brings and to support and guide the women’s side through it.

Men’s Captain

Tobias Allen
kings.men@cucbc.org

Hello, I am a third year Engineering student and learnt to row at KCBC in my first year. I have been in the first boat for the last 2 years which has been an amazing experience and have met so many exceptional people as part of this club.  Last year I was the computer officer but am now the men’s captain for the club. Following in Oscars footsteps from last year, I look forward to meeting the future of KCBC and cannot wait to see what the club will achieve this year!

Men’s Vice-Captains

Harry Jones & Tianrun Xu
mens.vc@kingsboatclub.com

Hi, my name is Harry and I’m currently in 2nd year studying biological modules under the Natural Sciences Tripos. I joined KCBC a year ago with absolutely no rowing experience and found the club so welcoming and friendly, despite preconceptions about rowing as a sport. I rowed in the novice men’s first boat (NM1) last year and progressed to the M2 boat which I loved. I found that its possible to be part of the club as well as others without sacrificing your degree or social life. I’m now a men’s vice captain, so if you are novicing, I look forward to coaching you!

mens.vc@kingsboatclub.com

My name is Tianrun Xu. I am currently in 3rd year studying maths. After a 3 year break from rowing, I decided to re-novice with Kings in Michaelmas 2021. Last year, I rowed with M1 for Lent bumps and M2 for May bumps, getting the long sought after “blades” in the latter. What I love about this club is the community it has. My experience with Kings was so much more positive than my experience with school rowing; the atmosphere is a lot more relaxed, and just the people here are a lot nicer in general. This year, I’m a men’s lower boat captain, so if you’re novicing, I look forward to coaching you! 🙂

Women’s Vice-Captains

Lara Riddell & Abbie Bowden (also Communications Officer)
womens.vc@kingsboatclub.com

Hi, I’m Lara I’m a 2nd year Law student. I learnt to row at the beginning of my first year here, as a complete novice, and I am now one of this years Vice-captains. I found KCBC to be a great way for me to be able to set boundaries within my time and create a stable routine that gave me a much better work-life balance and wouldn’t allow me to stay up until 3 am worrying over work. It has been a constant breath of fresh air for me (both literally and metaphorically) and has really been a great way for me to find friends and build my own confidence. So now being a VC I hope to pass the joy it brings me onto the rest of you who decide to join KCBC this year.

Hi! I’m Abbie, a second year studying Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. I noviced in Michaelmas 2022 and immediately fell in love with the sport and this club. After my novice term, I rowed with W2 for Lent and Easter bumps; as a senior, it became clear that I wanted to take a more active part in this club. Rowing is a tough sport, and it demands real patience and commitment, but it has also produced some of my closest friendships, and it’s this sense of support and community which sets King’s apart. As an LBC this year, I can’t wait to welcome the next cohort of novices in the same way I was last year.

Head Cox

Ollie Bercow
coxswains@kingsboatclub.com

Hi, I’m Oliver. I’m a second year historian who first learn to cox at KCBC in Michaelmas last year, with the year culminating in winning blades in May Bumps. My favourite part about coxing is the skills you develop and the friends you meet along the way. I love the competitive, but supportive, atmosphere at KCBC and look forward to playing my role as Head Cox in what will undoubtedly be another massive year for the club!

Secretary

Junior Treasurer

Oscar Wilson
junior.treasurer@kingsboatclub.com

Hello! I’m Oscar and I’m entering my fifth year with KCBC. I learned to row at King’s during my undergrad (Natural Sciences), and have stuck around because I love the sport and the club so much. After graduating from NatSci in June, I’m now studying a PGCE in Secondary Physics, which definitely wasn’t just to continue rowing! After a very successful year for KCBC last year as Men’s Captain, I’m looking forward to seeing what the club can do this year, and supporting that the best I can as Junior Treasurer.

Alumni Officer

Maria Alegria Gutierrez
alumni@kingsboatclub.com

Hi, I’m Maria, a third-year PhD student in maths. I only tried rowing after 3.5 years in Cambridge (at a different college), but I haven’t looked back since. When I joined KCBC in Michaelmas 2021 I already knew (barely) how to row, so I joined w2 in the senior squad. Everyone was really welcoming, and I quickly became friends with people who had learned to row at different stages. Training for and racing bumps was so much fun –and a great way to unwind outside of work. Last season, I also enjoyed pushing myself to the limit: rowing is a team sport, so everyone in the club contributes to lifting each other. It was amazing to win a few races -including blades- with w1 and to see everyone in KCBC united as a big family.

Equipment & Safety Officer

Computer Officer

Louis Hobson
webmaster@kingsboatclub.com

Hi! I’m Louis – a third year CompSci and this year’s KCBC Computer Officer. I had never rowed before the start of last year (and to be honest only started because of the fresher’s BBQ!), but the incredible welcoming atmosphere lead me to stay on for the year, all the way up to winning blades in the M2 May Bumps campaign! I find rowing to be a great way to keep active during term time and to de-stress in between my studies.

Steering Committee Liaison Officer

Adriaan Olivier
SCLO@kingsboatclub.com

Hi, I’m Adriaan and I’m a 4th year Medical Student and this year’s Steering Committee Laison Officer. I learned to row in my first year at King’s and have loved it ever since, rowing for both M1 and M2 in Bumps. Rowing at King’s is a great way to stay fit and to meet new people – some of the best people I know I have met via the Boat Club, and the supportive friendly environment is definitely the best part! A personal highlight for me was achieving blades in last year’s M2 Mays campaign, and the satisfaction of growing and strengthening together as a team over the course of the term. Yeah Kings!
