Women’s Captain
Clem Semler-West

Hi everyone! I’m Clem, this year’s women’s captain. I’m a second year studying Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic (please ask me about this, I love talking about my degree…). When I’m not rowing, which doesn’t happen very often, you can find me climbing, thru hiking, white-water kayaking, skiing, or doing literally anything I can to get outside! KCBC has been such a welcoming and supportive environment to row in, and I’m so excited for the upcoming season!
Men’s Captain
Tom Makins

Hi! I’m Tom, the Men’s Captain for this year. I’m in my final year studying HSPS, specialising in Politics & International Relations. I learnt to row with KCBC in my first year, and therefore know what it’s like to learn fresh! I have truly loved my time in the club, with some personal highlights being racing on the Thames, having an Olympic Gold Medalist as my opposite man in May’s 2025, and seeing other people who I taught how to row last year excel in the sport!
I’m massively looking forward to the upcoming season, where I hope to lead the Men’s side to more successes in all three terms!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out on my email (tm820@cam.ac.uk or kings.men@cucbc.org)
Women’s Vice Captain
Amelia

Hey! I’m Amelia and I’m women’s vice captain this year alongside Urim. I am a 3rd year Archaeology student but more importantly, of course, a member of KCBC. When I’m not rowing or studying, I enjoy exploring, crafting, travelling and generally being outdoors (if it involves water or mountains or abundant wildlife, I’m there). This is actually my second year as a vice captain. I am super grateful to have become a rower here so helping others to also discover the sport(/lifestyle) is something I really enjoy. I’m excited to see what this year brings for the crew!
Women’s Vice Captain
Urim

Hi, I’m Urim, Women’s Vice Captain this year alongside Amelia. I’m a second year natsci. My role within the boat club will primarily be to work with Amelia in putting together and executing a training programme for our Novices in Michaelmas term I learned to row last Michaelmas and have since fallen in love with the sport. Outside of my rowing life, I enjoy many other sports including basketball, which I played with the university last year. I look forward to seeing the big things this year has in store for KCBC!
Men’s Vice Captain
Archie

Hi I’m Archie, one of the two men’s vice captains at KCBC this year. I’m a second year mathmo. I fell in love with rowing in my first year and my favourite memories have been fairbairns and mays bumps! I also played for the university golf team and am trialling for the lightweight boat this year. I’m really looking forward to welcoming the newest members of KCBC and can’t wait to watch the club grow.

Social (gastronomic) Secretary
Aliya

Hi! I’m Aliya, one of the social (gastronomic) this year. Part of my responsibilities include planning the much beloved Boat Club Dinners, and Christmas Dinner, as well as organising socials both for our club and with others (known as swaps). I learnt to row (and cox!) at King’s in my first year, and have stuck with it ever since! As a History of Art undergraduate with limited contact hours, I find rowing really helps structuring my day and starting it off in such a positive light. I’m really looking forward to seeing what another year with the club brings!
Social (gastronomic) Secretary
Olivia

Hi I am Olivia- the other social sec this year. My responsibility is mainly organising socials within KCBC and with other colleges (swaps). Very fun and a good way to get to know KCBC and other rowers! I started rowing in my first year at Kings, having never done anything like it, and am still rowing now as a second year History undergrad. Despite rowing being a challenging sport at times, I really enjoy it (blisters and all) and I love KCBC. <3
Alumni and Development Officer
Mingjia

Hey, I’m Mingjia, the Alumni and Development Officer this year. I’m a second-year Maths PhD student. My research focuses on the study of soft condensed matter using geometric mechanics and differential geometry. I learned rowing and coxing at KCBC and have had some of the best memories. I will be working on maintaining connections with alumni, managing the social media account and newsletter, and keeping everyone updated on what’s on at KCBC. I can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Secretary
Iris

Hi! I’m Iris (3rd year Linguistics), this year Secretary to the Boat Club after a stint as Women’s Captain last year. I look after race entries, organise meetings and training camps, and generally help out with the admin necessary to running a boat club. Ever since I arrived at KCBC in my first year, it has been the most welcoming environment, and I have made friends for life through the club, as I hope anyone else joining the club will.
